There are a number of ways to self-publish. Some authors choose a professional printer to print their books, which are then shrink-wrapped and sent to them on pallets. After spending the money on graphic design, development and printing, they are free and clear of royalties and all the income from sales become theirs.
Now that Print-On-Demand (POD) has become popular, many people choose this route, as there is no storage, and some companies will automatically market your product online. I am currently using CreateSpace.com, as they seem to be the most inclusive in terms of online marketing.
Digital (Kindle, Nook) are also very popular. You may want to have a digital-only piece, or a print-only piece.
The process can be dizzying if you are not familiar with the business. I can lead you through any or all these processes, which include obtaining an ISBN number, a Library of Congress number, copyright and digital conversion. The best part is that you can choose to create your own imprint and keep all rights to your work.
That said, I offer a variety of rates.
Simple Publishing Package: $1,500-$2,500
This includes a color front cover, color back cover and black and white interior, with no pictures. I will arrange for your ISBN and Library of Congress numbers, and copyright. You can save money if you've already designed your cover, or can provide the artwork.
POD Publishing and Digital Formatting: $2,000-$3,500
I will create your book for both print and digital formats, arrange for ISBN and Library of Congress numbers, and copyright.
Editing
Proofreading: $.03 per word
Line Editing: $.07 per word
Substantive Editing: $.25 per word
Design
$65/hour
This is for additional advertising beyond the scope of the publishing packages, such as postcards, ads and business cards.
